Ok I own an 89 Bronco and I had installed a Pioneer head unit a while back and I'm finally tired of looking at this. I had bought the harness and everything to install it and come to find out the dash kit doesn't fit properly and I tried to cut it and everything. Thought I had did the job and (happy and everything but the panel will not go all the way on. The box said the right year and everything, is there a specific brand that I need to get or am I just going to have to settle for this?

Hey Eric,

I feel your pain. I HATE it when things don't fit right.

It's kind of hard to get a grasp on what exactly isn't fitting, but I can tell you I have had occations where the head units would not tuck deep enough into the dash. often there is ductwork or a wire bundle that can be moved slightly to get a little more room.

If not, the next best thing would try a auto sound shop for some advice.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck

since you cut the dash I don't know if my method will work now,

I used the factory brackets and used short screws straight into the body of the unit.

I cut the Factory audio connecter and soldered the wires using color code.

Don't forget to use the plastic support on the back of the unit.

IT will take some giggling but it fits.

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Green/Yellow

Car Radio Illumination Wire: Blue/Red

Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: N/A

Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: N/A

Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A

Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A

Car Audio Front Speakers Size: 5x6.5

Car Audio Front Speakers Location: Doors

Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Orange/Green

Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/White

Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Green

Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/White

Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: 6x8

Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: Side Panels

Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink/Green

Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Pink/Blue

Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink/Blue

Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Green/Orange

Skitter thats a very clean install, looks great
Thanks. I did my homework and made sure everything would fit. I currently have a Amp and Sub to wire in. I'll take some pixels of that project in the coming weeks. Gotta get past the end of school.

Hey Skitter,

Nice job! I have an amp I got cheep. A big mama. About 12"x16" can't find a place where it isn't in the way.

I carry lots of bulky tools in the back and don't want it hit. Any suggestions on where to put it?

Sorry,to Eric.....didn't intend to hi-jack his thread.

What model of unit are you trying to install?

I got a 12"x12" Amp that I'm trying to find a suitable spot for. I'll start a thread about this in the next week or so.

HIJACKIN' Reply...lol

Yo Ron,

We installed a similar large amp in center console location; 12" W is just right on fit!

for example on sizing; Tuffy Info & pics in a 96; 12.5"W, 24"L, 12"H -.

Hopefully you still have the hardware off the OEM Unit because your going to need to adapt the white plastic clip to the back of your new unit. And the original brackets will need to be screwed into the side of the DEH-X6500bt. Now if you don't have good mounting points you can use the anti-theft cage and punch holes in it using a proper size drill bit. Just remember to use short screws that way you don't hit anything on the inside of your new radio.

These newer head units are a pain to install in these "older" cars.
