I need to replace both valve covers on my 89 5.0L EFI. I was wanting to know the best way to do that.

What is wrong with the covers that they need to be replaced? Or are you talking about the gaskets?

As far as I know, there is no "easy way" :-& Unfortunately, with an EFI engine, you will have to remove the intake manifold to get at it. However, this is a good time to clean the intake manifold, I'm told it does wonders for the engine operation :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

I heard that you take the radiator out so you can sit there and work from there. What do you think about that?

its a waste of time taking out the rad just to do the valve cover gaskets, there is enough work to do without draining and removing the rad. but if you want to im not gonna stop ya

Ditto Krafty's post. Just get yourself a 2 ft. step ladder and work off it, or a one of those 1-1/2 ft painting platforms (probably get one from Lowes or Homer Depot). I keep a 2ft stepladder in the back of my truck for working in the engine compartment.

Good luck,

im tall enough that I could get away with using a spare tire when working on the bronco, cause you should always have one of those around, ( when a tire blows out in the middle of a trail 3 hours away from home and you don't have a spare. Be glad old jeeps have 5x5.5)

yeah hey no real need to take radiator out but if you want to then its a good excuse to change your coolant, also its really a pain to do but you can pull the plenum off the intake and then you can get right down at your valve covers

I posted the same question about a month a go and Beast Runner gave me a step by step instructions including detailed pictures to get this done. It is pretty time consuming but not overly difficult to complete. I would say that you should scroll down in this forum about page 4 where you will see Valve Cover Gasket Replacement posted by my name. Check it out and good luck. It helped me a LOT!!
