After seeing a similar post about air intakes, I'm interested in fabricating a snorkel through-the-fender kit for my 81 4.9. The question i have is will it cause a problem with the motor being carbureted? Or will it just come down to the fact that i'll have to make a box to mount around the carb? I'm no mechanic or **** kid but the idea looks good to me and if it'll work i'm definitely going to make it happen.

The snorkel should be attached directly to the top of the carb, just like the air cleaner. There are some places online where you can get an adapter for this and the conduit is attached to it.

A filter, like a K&N or similar can be attached outside the fender.

Send pics when you get to it. Sounds cool.

Good Luck

It'll be a bit, but i'll be putting pics up of my progress as it moves along. Thanks for the input

"...This is the hard part, the snorkel end needed trimming down, to alow it to exit out of the side properly. Not much fun, but the end result was worth the effort and cuts on your hands.

Actually, the hardest part is attempting reach the 3 attaching nuts inside the guard, that took hours. Worth the effort, but very painfull, lots of hand cramps!.."
