Tomorrow after work I will be looking at a nice 88 to do the 2wd swap and is there anywhere online I can get the axle codes,if it has 3.55s they will stay but 3.73s and 4.10s will have to go as I will be looking to put highway gears in it since it wont be going off road anymore. I need the codes to see what the 88 has and to see what the trucks in the junkyard have.

Since it is a previously owned Bronco, it may have had the gears changed. As Krafty said, the tag on the driver side B-post gives the code for the truck as it was shipped from the factory. A 18 = 3.08, a 19 = 3.55, a H8 = 3.08 limited slip, a H9 = 3.55 limited slip. If the code is followed by a 2 the front axle is a limited slip also.

However, the best thing may be to raise the rear wheels and turn one revolution while counting the number of turns the drive shaft turns. Just slightly over 3 would be a 3.08 while just over 3.5 would be a 3.55, just over 4 would be a 4.11, etc.

Good luck,

:)>-

Door Jamb Label Axle Ratio Codes in a 96; in 1996 F-150, F-250, F-350, F-Super Duty and Bronco Workshop Manual (SEE Thumbnail pic below)

++++++++++++++++

And as my friend Seabronc mentioned............

I made a mistake 15 years ago by telling someone to use the Driver's side Door Jamb label to ID their Rear Differential (axle, pumpkin type, etc.); turned out that a previous owner had swapped a Dana 60 in place of the stock 8.8

so... a run down; I asked Reggie Jackson what he used to help him validate year/make/ model/and component in general other than a Marti Report and/or a Certified Appraisal Document or Doc from an organization such as National Corvette Restorers Society

So I gathered some of the following to start that process;

TRANSMISSION, Automatic

C6 pattern is is P-R-N-D-2-1

If the shifter has a P-R-N-OD-D-1 pattern, the transmission must be an AOD.

If it has an Overdrive Cancel Switch and a P-R-N-OD-2-1 shifter pattern, then it is equipped with an E4OD transmission

You can measure the transmission fluid pan to determine which transmission you have if identification information is not available. A 4R70W transmission pan has an overall length of just under 15 inches, while an E4OD pan is much larger, measuring about 20 inches in overall length.-

But a visual depiction is better!

from this Plate; you could assume you have a rear diff code of 19 installed in his Bronco;

Basing on this;

Bronco, Rear from 85 & 90 Owner's Manuals; "Note, I'll add that the axle code for some years (Maybe all ) adds a 2 after the limited slip code if the front is also limited slip. So the code "H9" is a 3.55:1 limited slip rear axle only. "H92" would be a 3.55:1 limited slip on both axles. by ElKabong http://web.archive.o...m/axlecode.html

CODE 19 = 3.55 ratio

and that would be for a Ford 8.8 diff

I cant read the code on the sticker on the door jamb so I am going to see if it has a tag,not using o/d it seems steep but at 65 it was running about 1900 rpms so it cant be too bad.
