The engine is getting spark, air, and fuel, however, it will not run. When I replaced the spark plugs, it would turn over and backfire, but not start. any ideas?

Just a wild guess, but backfiring is usually associated with timing, distributor adjustment or timing chain. Are you sure the wires are in the correct order?
