Hey, y'all!

Got a '90 bronco 2, in a manual tranny. Its a 2wd so I'm not really interested in taking it to the mud pit if you people catch my drift. My interest is however held captive by rising fuel prices that we all face. And I thought installing a lowering kit to improve aerodynamics would be a good place to start cutting back on the amount of fuel it costs to propel my ford.

Not interested in slamming the thing to the ground low rider style, but I'd be lying if I was to say that I would not enjoy the sleeker profile.

I've been looking on summit racing but all I can find is lowering springs and I'm not really sure if I need lowering shocks or other parts. Anybody done this before? Looking for good advice before I make a purchase.

Should be able to find a lowering kit for a ford ranger. That should work for you

Ranger kit should work for you (as said above).. honestly though I doubt you'll gain anything. Your highest gains will be in wheel/tire size.. the smaller the wheel, the less "effort:fuel" is needed in order to rotate. So if for example, a 31" tire takes 5 ft to make a complete circle, and a 21" tire takes 2.5' to make a complete circle..well there is a big savings in fuel right there

Sigh... thats the general concensus I'm getting with all the friends and family I'm consulting with too. I'm wondering if all that air moves under the truck with such realative ease... wondering enough to put a cap on my spending for the project to ensure I'm extra thrifty IF I even continue with the project from this point.

One thing I'm still aiming for (in your general direction min you) is "lighter" wheels to reduce the "effort:fuel" needed to cover the distance my vehicle travels in order to take me from point A to point B, how ever I think I'm going to stray away from your idea as a smaller wheel may take less effort to make a full rotation BUT it will have to make more rotations to take me the same distance thus kind of self defeating the point.

I might breifly look into lighter wheels, but there are all ready 15" alluminum rims on there so I might just spend the money of a nice set of tires and fill them with nitrogen. (for you horse power nuts that also will free up horse power in your super swampers to put to the road given your engine isn't waisting it turning your 100lbs air inflated wheels) B)

Any other ideas? Keep throwing them at me, I wanna see what you guys come up with.

1......one of the best way to save gas is the way you drive the truck

and regular maitenace

2..... tire size and wider the tire more friction on road

3..... may be possible to change chip in ecm but not sure

the truck is aready v lite that why in 91 replace by explorer because rool over wider thend bronco 2

and one promblem w lowering kit is cost to do and is it worth it

bronco 2 have flat face lot's of wind resitace

hope this help you [-(

Nitrogen in the tires is, by far, the stupidest idea to roll out of detriot. The only reason for it is so it doesn't expand and contract in temperature differences, setting off those stupid tire moniter lights. In my area, the only place you can get it is the dealer, who charges too much for it. Seeing how regular air has worked for the better part of a century, I'll stick with that.

Well have you thought about the RARETY OF A 2WD BRONCO?--They -(Ford) never made that many. You may want to keep it original.

100lbs of air,,,Are you serious?!!My GROUND HAWGS say 30 PSI max on the side.

Why were at it why dont we just put helium in the tires so we can hover above the pavement and reduce friction on the ground thus saving gas also,,,Will that one work for you?

I would think a flat tire would weigh more because the helium would make it weigh less on the scales!

From a guy who's into older and classic cars, You really may want to keep that Bronco as original as possible. It really is rare and may be worth more than you think.

And I'm not drinkin or smokin nothin....wish I was.

Back to the original topic, no a Ranger kit won't work. Rangers use a different engine crossmember for 2wd/4wd models. Bronco IIs use the same, they're basically a 4wd with a dummy transfer case and a dummy front axle. You can however buy lowering beams for Bronco IIs, just doesn't go low enough for the money if you ask me. Now for the person who said they're rare; they're not. They are uncommon but Ford made them from 87-90 and depending on where they were bought depends on how many there were. Areas with snow you won't find a single 2wd, a nice dry area you may find tons of them.

Hope this helps!
