Hi i have a 1994 Bronco, i am assuming its the E40D trans. Well regardless it needs a new trans. I found a rebuilt c6 for cheap locally and was wondering what is needed to put a c6 in if it is an E40D currently. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You can checkthe transmission code onthe driver's door jamb safety sticker. Code "E" is the E40D auto, and code "K" is the C-6 auto. IF you swap from the computer-controlled E40D to the C6, you'll need to swap computers and "fool' it to just run the engine. There's some info on the swap at www.fordfuelinjection.com, and you can also look in the link to "Miesk5's Homepage" in the How-To And Tech Articles forum section here at Bronco Zone, JSM84

Well, you asked the question so I'm offering my opinion. I would think long & hard about replacing a 4-spd overdrive transmission with a 3-spd. With gasoline likely to hit $4/gal this summer the LAST thing in the world I'd want to be doing would be reducing my milage by some 20% by swapping from an OD to a 3-spd. Drive it around for a couple weeks locked out of OD and see how your milage is. While I agree that it can be done, with gas costing more than milk I'd give it a lot of thought.

lol, i'm not getting into a bronco project looking to save gas. Basically i got a 94 bronco for cheap and want to restore it, while lifting it and adding some big tires lol. i already got a v6 f-150 for my daily driver, so that consumes most of my gas. a guy locally is selling a c6 rebuilt with 8000 miles from a 92 for 400 OBO and even if it was just temporary i want this thing running while i restore it. i was just wondering, if i buy this tranny, what else do i have to do in order to use it. Thanks.

The C6 and the E4OD share the same flywheel so your set there . Youll have to get a pigtail and wire it in for the backup lights and neutral safety to work . the C6 is shorter so some driveshaft changes will be necessary . The computer controls the shifting of that tranny and the speed sensor in the tranny also provides the signal for the speedometer and for the computer . Look back through my post there was a shop that was making a new rear output yoke for the T case with a sensor that was set up to have the correct pulse for the speedometer and the computer youll need to find one from like a 90 or 91 that had a C6 with whatever motor you have . Then you should be set :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thats definately an E4OD you can tell by the electrical plugs and that stubby dipstick tube . There should be a black plug on the other side attached to the shifter shaft . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Here's a link to the ID info:

According to the chart, the F0TP-7006-CB is the E40D froma 90/91 Bronco? From the pic of the whole tranny, it certainly does look like the E40D. not a C6. You can also go by the pan shape and number of bolts in the pan. Think there's 20 bolts, may find a pic or have Blade confirm that, JSM84

It can cost you between $2300-$2800 to have a shop pull and rebuild the E40D in your 94. A used one from the salvage yard should run about $800, plus a few hundred just for the shop labor.

If you have to 'bite the bullet', might look into the 95-modle upgrades. There's a link to those in the Tech Articles forum, and a huge list of links on the E40D in "Miesk5's Homepage". Just read down the pinned topics on page one.

Heres a C6 trans pan, unless it looks like that with 17 bolts it aint a C6, All i know is the E4OD has 20 bolts, an AOD has a squarish pan that narrows at one end with 14 bolts.
