so i bought a 1986 bronco with the 351w h.o. c6 trans, 9in rear end, and a holley 650. it came with a lot of paperwork but it has been wrecked in the front end(i noticed it after i got it home)and the paper work for the repairs are missing. it looks like the guy i bought it from redid at least part of the electrical system under the hood, and under the dash. as well as an emission system delete. my problem is that im having major electrical problems. i have gotten a HAYNES, CHILTON, and even a FORD SHOP REPAIR MANUAL. and all my books do not list a dura spark system in the '86 and the closest i can match up diagrams is using the 2.0l diagram for the start/ignition, and the diagram for the '76-'78 f series truck. ive had a **** of a time finding parts for this damn thing, and im wondering if anyone as a truck close to this that would care to share some info or even some pics of the engine bay so ican put this mystery to rest would be great. thanks in advance

Maybe some pictures... closeups of your mess would be helpful.

Also please be a bit more specific... what electrical problems are you having, and what is working or not.

this truck has a lot of bugs in it, i have random wires under the dash that get VERY HOT. with the key on but engine off my temp and amp gauge peg to the right, but when the engine is running they return to normal operation somethings wrong with the fuel gauge sender as its stuck on 77 ohms. cruse control doesn't work. when i go to start it i have the feather the starter switch or it will just keep turning over without getting any power to the coil. the truck used to have an insane amount of lights on it as well as a massive winch, that has since been removed but it still has the second alternator and second battery in the back that i had to rewire to get working properly. the accessory pin on the fuse box is dead, but everything else in the fuse box has power.the grounding was crap on it but that and a lot of other problems i was having went away after i upgraded the "BIG THREE"( http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1 ) for my stereo system. as for the ignition system i belive its the dura spark II.

That wiring problem could cause a fire. To be quite honest with you, if it is in that bad of condition, I would seriously consider getting a whole new harness. Either get one from another truck or get one from one of the harness builders.

Good luck,

Wow! What a mess!

It seems that you have enough knowledge to be able to work your way through it. At 77 ohms, your fuel guage should read empty. Most of the other guages should read full or hot when shorted to ground.

Your ignition switch is a known problem, (having to feather it to get power to the coil) so I might start there.

You might also put inline fuses in those lines that get VERY hot until you track down the short.

If you insist on digging through the entire mess, as Joe suggests, then at least get the EVTM that is included with the shop manuals I refered you to in my first post.

Good luck,

:)>-
