Here is a diagram for a 83 Bronco. It looks like a couple of the wire colors have changed. The Black with white stripe is power to the rear switch. Purple with green stripe is the window motor ground which goes back thru the dash switch.

diagram attached, hope it helps some.

Are you sure the switch is broken? Have you done any voltage checks to confirm that? The Black with White stripe should be hot at all times, it is the power for the tail gate switch, if there is no voltage on it, the tail gate switch will not work. It is a seperate fuse from the driver switch power. The Purple with light green stripe is the ground path for the motor, it goes all the way back to the driver switch and must be that way for the driver switch to work. Have you tried to bypass the tailgate safety switch? The reason I ask is that the problem may be the safety switch, if it is not closing, neither switch will work. I can tell you how to bypass the tailgate switch, but if the problem is in a connection that won't work because the bypass has to be in the tail gate unless you want to run wires all the way back to the driver switch.

OK, this assumes that the connections back to the driver switch are good.

If you don't have power locks on your doors, just remove the fuse that provides power to the black with white stripe wire. If you do have power locks, then cut the black with white stripe wires off the tailgate switch and cap and tape them up good to make sure it won't short out some day and either drain the battery or blow the fuse.

Next you should have one part of the switch with a yellow with a red stripe wire and a purple with light green stripe. Cut them and connect them together.

The other motor wire goes thru the tail gate safety switch before returning to the window switch on the tan with black stripe wire. The function of that switch is to prevent the window from being closed unless the tail gate is fully closed. If you want to keep that functional, cut off the other two wires on the window switch and connect them together. If not, find the other lead that goes directly to the motor, probably red with yellow stripe and connect it to the other wire which in your case is probably blue, (on some harnesses it is purple with a blue stripe).

Make sure that all wires are routed and fastened so that they will not get caught in the window mechanism.

If the connections back to the driver switch are good you should be able to make the window go up and down from there.

Good luck,

:)>-

You can't use the black with white. It is the power source to the rear switch. With the bypass, you have to use the power source to the driver switch. If you look at the diagram, you will see two fuses. One for the rear switch and one for the front switch.

If it doesn't work, then either the front fuse is blown, or you have a bad connection in one of the connectors going back to the front, most likely in the purple with green stripe. I have seen these corrode so bad they fall off the connector. In some trucks, the first connector is behind the left tail light, (Some trucks don't have one there). The next one is on the rear crossmember left side just behind the bumper, and the other one under the dash left side, and finally at the switch. The wire color is consistant thru the whole truck, so for example, if you find a Purple with Green stripe in the back and one in the front, it is the same circuit.

Some questions that I would like you to answer, which will aid me in helping you;

1. did you confirm that the window motor actually works by jumpering from a battery to the motor leads?

2. Did you leave the safety switch in the circuit?

3. Have you used a volt meter to check that you have power at the driver switch?

4. Do you have someone that can operate the switch while you check the voltage at the motor and other locations along the route?

Good luck,

:)>-

Good, atleast the motor is good :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . Then it is only a matter of getting voltage from the driver switch to the motor. You need a voltmeter or a 12V voltage probe to check the voltages.

Have someone press the driver switch, up or down, and check the wires you disconnected and hooked together. In one direction one should have 12V and in the other direction the other should have 12V.

1. If you have 12V at each lead as the switch is pressed up and down, then the connections back to the driver switch are good. In this case I would suspect that the safety switch is bad or not getting closed when the gate is up if you haven't bypassed it already. So if you haven't bypassed the safety switch then do it.

2. If you don't have 12V then you need to verify that there is 12V at the driver switch. If you have 12V at the driver switch, then you have a problem in one of the connectors between the switch and the window motor.

I'll check out the removal of the panel with the switch on it this afternoon and get back to you.

By the way, to get at theswitch, remove the light **** and then gently pry cover off with a screwdriver.

I use a L shaped pick to get behind the **** and release the wedge shaped spring fatener inside of it. You need to hold the pick on the fastener to release pressure while pulling on the ****. I'm not sure how to better describe it to you, but the fastener is sort of V shaped and you need to put pressure on one side of the V to make it let go of the shaft.

Be careful that you don't scratch anything, but you can use a flat blade screwdriver carefully inserted between the panel and the dash to pry it loose. Once off, you have direct access to the switch.

Good luck,

:)>-
