Has anyone had any experience with hydralic winches? Are they better than electric? They are replacing the electric ones they put on hummers for Iraq.

Yes they are more hassel, you know leaks and such and of course a driveline coming off the engine but they tend to be stronger and don't tax the elect. system. you can't use a remote control with them as a rule or at lest I've never heard of such, which means that you are standing in the pinch point to work them

My bud I wheel with is a 'big wig" at Nat. Park Serv. THey tried/tested them & were impressed. However, to cheap to buy any.

They run off the P/S pump (it may need up-grading ..don't know.)

I guess they'll run under water/mud (unless something jams the spool) as there's no elect. motor to drown.

Prob. a bit more hassle installing (plumbing) Can't wait for your "user report"..! :-"
