Hello Everyone! Well this is my first post but I have read a lot of the earlier post seeing if anyone has had the same problem I am having. One day my '74 Bronco quit starting. The only sound it would make is a single click. So I replaced the starter relay, ignition coil, starter, and a few wires that looked bad. Now all I get is multiple clicks from the starter relay while I am trying to start it but will not engage the starter. Any suggestions? The next step I was going to try is replacing the battery cables, ground cables and the cable going from the starter relay to the starter. Thanks!

Hi Turner., welcome....

Hindsight, but most all the items you replaced could have been tested. Best not to throw parts at it 'til you've isolated the problem.

Like oleguy said.., & you didn't mention the battery condition..??

What you describe, has all the earmarkings of a weak batt. Even new batterys fail these days.

The cables don't have to be squeeky new.., just "good clean" connections.

A loose or dirty connection will do as you describe as well.

However., I've seen cables so corroded/rotten then yes.., replacement is in order.

Thanks guys I will try this out. the battery was good at one time but we all know how they can fade fast. I will grab some electrical connection cleaner and see what I can make happen this weekend. just out of curiousity if this doesn't work.... any ideas?

That circuit is pretty simple & straight forward.... ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

12v (key to "start") runs fr. batt. to solenoid to the starter.

Ground runs fr. batt. to eng. block..., starter gets ground fr. eng. block.....

Soooo., there's 4 components...., batt., solenoid, cables, starter.

Steelwool/fine sandpaper works good to clean cable ends....

There's an outside chance the key-switch could act up but they usually work, or they don't.

Auto parts will load-test/charge your batt., usually for free. :D/
