Hi there, I'm a newb here. My t case in my '88 Bronc locked up on me. It is an elec Bw 1356 mated to an aod tranny. Im looking at junk yard t cases. I found another 1356 in a '90 Bronc, but I really dont care to go back with one of those. I also found a Bw.1345. Are they any stronger? How do they compare to a Np 208? I know the Np 205 is tough, but they are also tough to find. Also are there any other parts I will need to convert, driveshafts, adapters etc? I have an 8.8 reaerend with 4.88 gears.

How is it locked? THe electric ones have an issue with the motor, I would just replace with a manual version. I think if you go the NP roue you will have a bunch of extra changes to make as well.

203/205 Doubler Installation Info & pics w/Jed's Machining Kit in an 88

The quest for a higher crawl ratio is over!

Im building a NP203/NP205 doubler via the adapter from Jed's Machining.

The BW1356, while serving me faithfully, is dying a slow death. Its worn out, and is becoming a pain to shift. Its also freakin huge! Believe it ot not, but the doubler is only 3" longer! Its also a shitload heavier. The 1356 is light, it weghs maybe 75lbs, but id bet the doubler is more like 250. I can barely move the damned thing!

tcase specs:

They (Jed's) shorten/respline the intermediate shaft on the gear box on the 203 to allow it to spline into the input on the 205. I also modded the shift rail on the 205 to allow me to split up the front & rear outputs, so i could use, for example, just the front axle, while still in '4 low'. Should come in handy on those tight turns.

Thank you for the replies. I had already pulled the shift motor and welded a socket on the backside of the gear to allow me to shift using a ratchet. The case itself lost high range, was able to limp home (almost) in low range. About a mile from home the rear wheels locked down. I was able to pull the rear ds and tow it. My main concerne was with the strength of the 1356 compared to a 208. I found a manual shift 1356 at the local yard and bought it. Hope its better than the last. Thanks again!
