I have a stock 85 Bronco that is used 95% as a daily driver and no real serious off roading. But I now have 2 kids that will be going camping with me on the little off roading I do but will ride in it on the road most days. While I never thought to put a roll bar in since I bought it in 85 I now think of their safety. It has the hard top on.

Any suggestions as to which roll bars to put in it? The only one I found on the internet was at the Bronco Graveyard. They give thickness stats but I don't know if that is good or more heavy duty would be better?

If you can't point me at a specific set could you tell me what specs to look for? I would hate to put something in thinking the kids were safer and not have that really be the case. Thanks!

I'd be interested in this also, I'm considering the same thing. However I don't want a cage that takes up space in the front seat area. I do want something that gives head protection to front and rear passegers. I invision something with a cross bar just behind and over the driver and one cross bar over the head of the passengers. In a stock Bronco I live with theknowledge that a rear seat passenger would probably be dead in a rollover and the front seat people might not do much better.

The one from JBG is good, and S&W Racecars makes a 8 or 10-point cage kit for the Bronco. I have the 10-pt, since I plan to race my 84, but haven't installed it yet. You can have a custom cage built, but it will cost close to $1000. Whatever you decide to get, be sure to tie it into the frame. A rollbar mounted to the body only can be worse than none at all in an accident.

You can check out Pirate4x4.com for the best source of info on rollbars and cages.

I had a bolt in 3 piece simple roll bar in my 92 custom & it worked perfectly when I rolled my Bronco. It was the simple 2" roll bar as seen on JBG. You don't even need to remove the shell to install it since the the 2 supports which bolt to the pan in the rear behind the wheel wells actually are each a seperate piece that bolt into the main bar assembly. The main bar assembly fits perfectly right where the roof ends. It doesnt fit under the roof it is made to install right under the shell next to the roof line. It doesnt effect entry or exit from the vehicle, seating comfort etc.

The front bolts down with 5 bolts n washers, I used nylocks, 12 totall in the rear. There is no interference when drilling the holes. The front flanges mount right next to the seat belt assms. All you would need to add is a bit of 2" roll bar padding @ some key locations i.e. (near knee & leg areas, corners near door etc.) There is some body pan flex when off road so you wanna make sure you pad the top center & top corners etc or you will experience clunking etc because the fit near the roof is prettty close. My personal opinion is; that this simple style of roll bar adds great support and strength for the $'s right to the proper areas (near the frt /rear passengers)and should make a great safety feature for the average off roader. Ya might never need it, but if you do like I did, its the best money spent! My4cents! ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> P.S. this style bar stopped the roof from caving in more as the truck slid on its roof down the mountain. Also all 4x4 Broncos that were used by the Cailifornia Dept of Water & Power were & are equiped with this type of "bolt in interior Bar."
