whats the difference?

what is the difference between a dana 60 HP and a dana 60 kingpin HP and which one is better for wheelin?

Well Im pretty sure the hP stands for high pinion and that is a plus in any lifted truck as for the other Ill take a stab in the dark here becasue I really am not sure but I know in big trucks such as school busses and possibly semi tractors the front steering knuckles are called a kingpin design they have a very big pin that the knuckle pivots on where as on a normal light duty truck axle the knuckle rides on ball joints . So with that I guess Id have to say the kingpin design should be stronger but not sure how they would run the axle shaft out to drive the wheel , Hmmmmmmmmmmm we need to find some pics :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Good to see Blade offer the info and I agree with him and Bill A( BillaVista);

Some info from Bill;

"The most desirable axles for heavy duty 4x4 use in stock form have open kingpin knuckles, 35 spline inner axles, 30 spline outer axles (stub shafts), and disc brakes. Later model Ford high pinion (HP) Dana 60s with balljoints instead of kingpins are also desirable axles, though many prefer the kingpin knuckles over the balljoints.

The undesirable front Dana 60 axles will not be covered by this article, and include:

74-75.5 Ford low pinion drivers side closed knuckle drum brake with 30 spline inners, 19 spline outers, small ujoints and weak knuckles.

75.5-77 Ford low pinion drivers side open knuckle disc brake 30 spline inners, 19 spline outers, outer knuckle spindle pilot hole is smaller than 78+ axle and is therefore notched to allow 1480 series U-joint tp pass through.

94+ Dodge drivers side low pinion CAD unit bearing hub 32 spline 1.31
