Wow,...! I want what your drinking....

Lets see,...

"looks red like tanny, but as i looked it coming from the plae under my transfer case"

Some transf. cases use auto transmission fluid.

"drove around 50 or 60 seems to shake"

Check for wheel bal., & tire seperation

"also seems to have slack in drivline, when i park, i seem to roll foward alot"

Parking brake...? What transmission..?

"this is my cv and u joints on the front drive shaft correct?"

Not sure what this means....are you asking if the front dr. shaft is causing you to roll forward..?

Well i took it to a powertrain shop, yoke was froozen, spline was bad, replaced it all with a new drive shaft assembly, just another 300 bucks in the money pit, they also say bearing in the rear end are going, say i should replace them before it gets bad and the whole thing goes, they say its comman, is it easy to do yourself or should i work for another couple weeks to hand my check to them????

That's a 'lil steep for a dr. shaft but OK -_- /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> BTW front or rear dr. shaft..?

"they also say bearing in the rear end are going, say i should replace them before it gets bad and the whole thing goes"

Are they talking about pinion bearings ..or axle bearings..?

"they say its comman"

Not common unless abused or lack of maintenance (A frozen rear dr. shaft would play **** with pinion bearings & transfer case as well)

"is it easy to do yourself "

The pinion bearings in the pumpkin "aren't so easy"..... Axle bearings somewhat easy....bearings need to be pressed on & off the axle.

About 1-1/2 banana job. B)

It was the rear drive shaft, now you can hear a noise when you drive in the rear end, sounds like bearings or something, when you apply gas you hear it, let off the gas it goes away, they said i should do it soon before it strips the gears or causes more problems, they say to pull it out and apart ia a day job and 500 bucks, you think i should get a second opion, im probably getting screwed, this is south florida

IF you have a grinding/growling noise in the rear axle when accelerating, it may be the rear driveshaft u-joints or rear axle going out. Since you posted the driveshaft has been repaired, you may have a major problem in the real axle. It can be the axle bearings like stated, or the pinion gear or differential gears. I would advise taking it to a competent shop that knows how to diagnose and repair these problems. It may be hard to find one you trust and won't get screwed. The new parts for the rear axle like bearings and gears are only a couple hundred bucks, but the labor is high due to the work involved in setting up the gears so they mesh together just right. You have to set the backlash and preload, which is difficult on the Ford 8.8". A complete rebuild for $500 is about the right price. A complete junyard rear axle is about $200-$300, but you don't know for sure how long it will last. IF you don't know of a good shop in your area, definitely get 2-3 quotes from the shops.

Yah, like I said..that bad dr. shaft took its toll.

An easy way out is to swap in the 3rd member only. They're pretty reasonable at the bone yards....& they guarentee them to work properly.

Do some more checking around...don't hirt to ask.

You could do the swap yourself for $100-200 at the most.

Not hard, just a bit messy.

Bob
