Hey guys , I finally got rid of my 64' Lark this past weekend so I'm getting ready to order some parts for this gas guzzlin 351W (Exhaust and Ignition) .

I saw somewhere (Summit?) about a Breakout Box , what are they ? I did see that they are real dammm expensive (so I'm NOT buying one , I was just wondering . I've used a "Star Tester" when I worked at a Ford Dealership in PC Florida back in 94-5 .

I pulled a plug today to check reach before I order the Bosch Plugs (Plat. Plus4 or 2) . Summit lists a .480" reach and a .7XX" , currently it has AC 24's or maybe Autolite 24's .

The plugs were white ! But if you want a bad a "high" just walk behind the truck at Idle and it'll choke you .

It's a new engine with 4500 miles or more and gets 10 mpg . It runs smooth at Idle and speed . I pulled the "Cats" off because they were plugged tighter than a frogs a$$ .

There is no check engine light on never has happened for that matter . Could there still be codes being held without a Check Engine Light ?

Someone wrote back to me earlier that pulling the Cats off and opening the exhaust up would cause the Computer/O2 sensor to sense a lean condition and dump more fuel .

So one thing I was getting was a "Spun Metallic" High Flow Cat Box from these folks :

https://2274993133.monstercommercesites.com...amp;ProdID=1181

Now, The original setup on my truck had 2 cat boxes one built into the Y-pipes and the standard monster with a stock muffler and single out , should I buy 2 of these to get some back pressure back in the "mix" ?

I'll be getting an exhaust from Summit , but i'm not sure which yet . E

Either a 3" single or a 3" single in-2.25" dual out . I don't care about sound other than I don't want that obnoxious "Blat" sound almost like a V-8 Fart Can sound .

I'll also be getting Taylor 8.2mm Wires , Blaster Coil and had planned on the Bosch plugs .

I'd say yes, there may be codes that are not evident until you try to pull them.

For help pulling codes, here is a great post by BroncoJoe19:

You will know the status of the check engine light as soon as you start to pull your codes. The check engine light is used to obtain your codes by counting the blinking light. When you see how easy it is and inexpensive, you will never buy another code tester. If there are no codes the system will give you a code indicating that the Bronco passed. I highly encourage you to check out BroncoJoe19's post. It saved me time and money.

Let us know what you find. Good luck.

yo!

the Breakout Box fits between Powertrain Module and vehicle connector. Uses OEM connectors and terminals; Rocker switch allows change from computer-base timing to distributor base timing, etc.

There are diff versions for diff eec systems from earlier EEC to OBDII plus ABS.

The STAR is basically gone now; here is Ford's Tech Tool info

NO Code troubleshooting by Ryan M "Don

What about my ideas on the exhaust/ignition ? Barring any unforseen problems should this help my mileage woes?
Pull your codes first. Then you will know your "unforseen problems" before you spend time/money on something that may not be an issue.
