I'm thinking of replacing my tailgate and need to know what years are the same for my '82. The guy I got it from said the the tracks and motor are all messed up inside. I've never opened it since I've owned it but would like to. I figure the quickest and easiest fix is to swap the whole gate since I'm sure I can get one for cheap. So does anyone know what years I should look for?

Also, when I do find one, which will be in the local pull-a-part, I'll need some way to lower the window. I could bring my own battery but don't have a wiring diagram to know what wire to put power to. They are all electric right? Are there any online wiring diagrams or do you know what wire(s) to look for?

Thanks,

Mike

78 - 79 Type A

80 - 82 Type B

83 - 96 Type C

If your swapping within the same "type" it's just a direct swap.

If swapping A & B you have to switch the glass and glass support brackets

If swapping B & C you have to switch latches and striker plates

If swapping A & C you have to switch the glass, glass support brackets, latches & striker plates.

whereas in many diagrams; one wire is coded incorrectly, such as;

Wiring Diagram (wire color code is wrong in diagram; the one labeled pink / light green should be purple / light green, from dash sw to UP @ Key Sw in t gate; thanks to Seabronc!) by off-road.com
