It looks like the remains of the CV (Constant Velocity) joint on the driveshaft.

everyone calls it by different names, the correct name according to ford is constant veloscity joint, (if thats spelled right) advance autoparts sells who driveshafts already assembled for $150, other than that just try a ford dealer or junkyard, personally id go with advance ,$150 bucks isnt much for a totally new shaft,cv joint, and all 3 u joints

Thank you all for your replies. Auto Zone wanted $289 for the new driveshaft. I oredered one from a junkyard for $125. I only hope that I can get new u-joints into it. That is what started it all. Also I have no idea how to keep from breaking the CV joint when I go to replace the u-joint. Ya know???????

Sometimes I wonder what I got myself into with this Bronco.

Ok so here is an update to drive ya crazy. The salvage yard didnt have a correct driveshaft. The driveshaft the brought out to me was about 4 ft long. Mine was only about 2 ft long. What gives?

ah yeah, good ol sealed u joints "so good they dont ever need to be greased" BS...they have needle bearings , many in fact and constantly piviot and spin everytime you drive, THEY NEED LUBRICATION!, never ever but u joints that are sealed ( my opinion ) just get a new shaft and if they are sealed, keep em clean and you might be okay for a good while

I'm guessing that the junk yard figured that a 4wd f150 would have the same drive shaft but the wheel base is a little longer on a 150. Other than that, I would get one from advanced or whatever for a little extra money. A driveshaft isn't something I personally think is something that should be overlooked. I've seen driveshafts do some un-Godly things to cars. Also, I had an unballanced rear shaft and it messed up my rear diff and I believe it didn't do anything good to the t-case either. Well, just my input.

also the f150's have a 1 piece slip yoke driveshaft, they have light duty transfer cases, as where the broncos have a 2 piece shaft that bolts to the t-case which is HD, i once had a driveshaft cutand welded and the balance was terrible, i replaces the cv joint and all 3 u joints 3 times in 2 years, finially got a brand new shaft and been fine ever since, but even the slightest vibration in your drivetrain can wreek havoc on your truck

Do you know if the advance auto shaft has quality u-joints? I get a little shimmy when I'm accelerating hard and when I go 70 + mph and think it's that cv joint. If a new one's only $150 from there then that's a bargain!

Heres an update. I finally got what I needed from the Salvage Yard. $125 dollars, and 1.5 weeks. They did tell me that I probably got the last 96 Bronco Rear driveshaft in North Carolina. Go figure!

Thanks fo all your help. Now who wants to come help me install the new u-joints in this one????????

to answer the question of quality of advance u joints, let me say this, i have a worked motor, 38's, and a lead foot, and do alot of offroad driving, ive never broken an advance u joint, i got the cheaper ones that you can grease, id say you will be fine

I've got the small one (goes in the back) sitting in my garage, already on the other half of the drive shaft with a new universal even. If you want it I'll give it to you for a few bucks plus shipping
