Hey Guys,

I am working on a '74. I am currently putting a 3 1/2" suspension lift on it. Well I am at the point of welding the shock hoops and rear double mounts on the frame. I was wondering should I drop the gas tanks on my truck before I weld? I don't want to explode or anything like that. Or could I just reroute the gasonline lines and cover the gas tanks with some sort of protection (please give ideas here.) Thanks guys.

Idealy, yeah, you should drop the tank. It isn't the fuel that will explode it is the fumes. I have had to do welding in a pinch around the tank, due to a full tank, but for your own safety and peace of mind, run the tank out and drop it.

You should not have to drop the tank. I didn't. I covered the gas line i was weldin by with a wet towel. Didn't even have to do that, just watch what your doing. Good luck with the install.

So what are you going to do since you got both openions. It's your BUTT, I would remove it if I were doing any serious welding close to it, but then that is how I treat my BUTT :)) .

Good luck,

:)>-

I called wild horses (bought the susupension system from) and the said one doesn't have to, but it would be better. So it looks like I will probably drop it.
