ok i turned the ignition on on my bronco and this horrible buzzing sound is coming from this thing that is above the rear tire on the driver side on the frame. i checked my book cuz i though it was my fuel pump, but apparantely it is not. the book says the pump is located in the engine bay. so i am just really confused. does anyone know what this is it appears to be coming from there. u can hear it even if u are sitting inside.

also can someone tell me what is the computer looking thing under my drivers seat. thanx

Nope, books's wrong, unless of course yo uhave an early 80's carb'd Bronco (lose the Haynes & Chilton's books & get one of the factory manuals published by Helm Inc. http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp?r...als+publishing+ They're often found on Ebay for reasonably $$$. They aren't as cheap as a Chilton's but then they aren't nearly as wrong or incomplete either)

You have two fuel pumps (unless you have a 93-96 (I think)) one is the low pressure pump located in the fuel tank and that one pressurizes the system and then a second high-pressure pump located near the transfer case on the drivers side framerail. The only fuel pumps located under the hood are mechanical pumps for carb'd engines and those are mounted low on the front end/driver's

You can usually hear the fuel pump prime for a few seconds when you first turn the key to the "on" position but once the line is pressurized it usually quiets down.

I've seen possts about that blk box under the drivers seat & I think the consensus was that it's anti-theft related. The engine computer is located behind the kick panel, the doohickey under the seat is either stereo or anti-theft related I believe.

That appears to be a fuel pump, but I have never seen one mounted outside the frame or in a wheel well. Not a good location at all. That is definately not original equipment. (At least I don't think it is, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) What year is your truck? If your book says the pump is in the engine bay, then I'm guessing it is an older carburated model that would have originally had a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine. Perhaps a previous owner converted to an electric pump for some reason?
