> i had a post a while back wondering what kinda tires would be the best for rock crawlin and mudd bogging , didnt get alot of replies but thanx to those who did .. i just want some ideas on what to get i have some 36 inch tsl sx's and some pro com all terrieans but i am about to drop alot of cash on some mudd tires ,, i had a 95 eddie bauer with some thornbirds but they where only 30 inches. and the sounded like a small aircraft when i was driving down the road ... my girl finally wouldnt ride in it but hahaha, i would rather listen to the tires than her bitch anyday ... i saw some BFGoodwrench Krawler but they are only 35 inches on a 15 inch rime which is what i have but are they good in the mudd at 375.00 a piece i hope so. then there is the all mighy BOGGER, i have seen them in action and they are good but i herd that the also sound bad going down the road and when you turn them sharp, if the width is bigger than 15 inches it rubs real bad on your radius arm and wear down on the inside and they tear up axles alot , but you can cut them to make them drag mudders .... see guys i am in a pickel i cant bring myself to a decision , i look in these books and its like ******* with all of the stuff ... lol j/k....and all the bad a$$ tires and i cant decide some one needs to find out all of the pros and cons of mudd and krawling tires and get a MOD to pin it especially all of these guys on here lookin to get some tires ...most like i say get the boggers ... i was also thinkin about getting some thornbird 36 in in the front and some 36 boggers in the back i know it sounds stupied but hey it sounds like it would work has ne one ever herd of this mis-matchin tires????

come on guys some ideas would really help

thanx j

Can't help you on this one, but how about a suggestion. No matter what you make up your mind to get, why not get a set of road tires and only put the others on when you are going to play :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Also, please only post a question once, thanks.

I priced out a set of 37" Krawlers and they were about 700 a piece. If you found them for 375 thats probably the best deal your gonna get. Krawlers are the best for rock krawling. Boggers are the best for Mud and are okay for Crawling. Yes they are ******* axles but thats cause they are so good, instead of the tire slipping your u-joint goes, in mud you use high RPMs to get you through, the boggers chew like you wouldnt beleive, They would rather break stuff than spin a tire. As for the Krawlers, look on every rock buggy (I mean real capable rock buggies and truggies) worth a mention they have either boggers or Krawlers. Boggers are half the price and very capable. They are my tires of choice.

Never run Thornbirds!!! They're crap! The only thing good about them is the side lugs. The tread is to closly packed together and the large tread blocks do not work well on pavement, mud, dirt etc. Plus they vibrate like crazy! Boggers are a much better choice but are also noisy. They seem to slip sizeways unless you groove them.

I like the SX's off road but on road they ****. They flat spot but are strong and give great traction on everyting. I had mine siped for more traction on rocks, pavement and to help let them flex a bit as they are a stiff tire.

I've run both Swamper Radials and SSR's. Both Run smooth as glass down the road, are quiet and do well off road. Downside is the sidewalls are weak due to being a radial. My next tire will be Irok Bias as I've heard they don't flat spot like the SX's do. Will see... Hope this helps...

JB, I ws going to post a pic of two rigs with two different tires, but I can't add a pic or post a regular reply (using fat reply). Look in my superford.org gallery under "Commanche Ridge". One Bronco has 36" TSL Super Swampers, and the owner also siped the lugs to add traction. The other Bronco runs 39.5" Boggers, and I think these tires outperform most others, including the Swampers. Both in deep mud and on rocks, the lugs get chewed up really fast, but the Boggers appear to hold up better. The sideways grip is a weakness on the Boggers, if you're climbing a steep incline. Another thing, in the pic, the Bronco with the Boggers is replacing the third axle shaft in a month on the stock TTB. The main problem was using cheapie u-joints from Pep Boys Auto Parts and old, used shafts. The Bronco with the 36's did break one axle during the same time period and same trails. Not saying you will be breaking 1/2-ton parts with 35" or taller tires, but my buddies are. I'm going with 36" Goodyear MTR's on my 1-ton axles. JSM84

I was out at a private ranch in the Texas hill Country over Memorial weekend, and one of the wheeler's had a set of those Pit Bull Rock tires. They look really cool, similar to the Nitto Terra Grappler's. The feature I see most useful in the Bogger's is the deep horizontal lugs, or they go across the tire. This gives them the good bite over other tread designs. In my opinion, Bogger's rule!!! Just to add, I rode with a dude that had 44" Bogger's on his trail rig. They were a bit wide in some tight gulleys, but he could still climb a near-vertical slope up the side of a cliff.

Looks like the small lugs were sawed off, is that what cut means? Bigger gaps and less rotational weight? Looks good. Hope you don't ever have to traverse a slick side hill. Start sliding sideways in something as heavy as a bronco and you can kiss your rear goodbye.

I had a friend with Thornbirds. He got a great deal online. Big nasty looking tires. Looked great. Made way too much noise. Got stuck in the edge of my pond, had to be extracted with a farm tractor. They sure do look nice on a truck though.

My Bronco has Maxxis Buckshots on it. That's what was on it when I bought it. We have some mounted on a _odge truck and I hate them. Since the Bronco is my 4wd, I don't know if its the tires that make it so "shifty" on the road or if its just due to it being lifted and big tires. Either way, when they wear down, they're history. I've used Cooper mud tires on everything in the past and will prolly get a big set for my Bronco when it's time. Since we have a lot of mud down here, mudtires are what I want. But I spend a lot of time on the hwy and the Coopers on my other trucks have worn well with a lot of pavement. I have a set of Boggers on a strictly off road 2wd and they do killer. Real killer. But I don't know what they'd do on the hwy. And we don't have rocks down here so I don't know about crawling. I do know that when I get the 2wd truck in some mud it sure makes a mess with 4 boggers on the back going to work.

Since I'm in Louisiana and Boggers are made in Louisiana, I have to keep it at home and say go with the Boggers.
