I was told by a few people that after I take the top off I neeed to put it back on with a certain bolt pattern so it won't leak. is this true.

If you have good weather stripping it will not leak after you take it off. I use to only have 4 bolts holding mine on and it never leaked. I have a soft top now.

Yes and no. It should not matter a whole lot. The weight of the top will keep it down enough that tightening order shouldn't matter.

BUT tighten down the pillar/cab bolts first to pull it snug against the cab line. Otherwise the other bolts may hold it back from the cab as you tighten those causing leaks.

I usually do the center top, then the pillars, then whatever I grab next.

We had to put the hard top on in a hurry the other day when it was getting ready to dump rain...we didn't have any bolts in that thing when the rain started coming down...didn't leak at all. We even had to drive it like that...(very lucky we didn't break the tailgate glass)...for a few miles.

I've never heard of a particular order to put the bolts in...just make sure you're on there straight, bolted down nice and snug, and make sure you're not missing any weatherstripping.

agreed, i have only 5 bolts on mine and it's never leaked.

One thing you might think about when having it off though, is to take the little fasteners along the side rails off. They can vibrate off and get lost while you're driving.
