Alright so I was heading to the local junk yard Friday with a buddy of mine after work. I went down a bumpy stretch of road that came up quick and out of nowhere. After the first few hard bumps I noticed the truck shaking kind of bad at 20 MPH. We get off the road and back onto real pavement and when the truck hits second gear there is a violent vibration. My buddy signals me to let me know the back axle is vibrating and bouncing quite bad. Once I get it on the highway trying to nurse it hime it finally gets to shift to third and smooths out. You can still hear the engine straining more then usual however. Right before my exit off the highway I enter onto the bridge and after this bump the engine sounds like it smoothed out. Coming off the off ramp I statrt to, nervously, accelerate and the problem is completely gone like it never had a prob. At this point I figure it is more then likely a loose connector on a sensor. Any ideas where would be a good place to start on this one?

Hi CB..,

"stretch of road that came up quick and out of nowhere"

I'm guessing that "streach of road" was always there..... /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

1)"buddy signals me to let me know the back axle is vibrating and bouncing quite bad."

2)"the engine sounds like it smoothed out"

3)"engine straining more then usual however"

At this point., it's unclear if you have an engine problem.., or a broken suspension/driveline component., or possibly a transmission issue.

"Any ideas where would be a good place to start on this one?"

May have to bite the bullet, put it on the rack & have it inspected.

It's definitley going to have to go on the rack. The problem is back and getting progressively worse. Sounds like good weekend plans to me.

I have been doing the trouble shooting and it looks like I will be dropping the tranny pan this weekend. The motor mounts are good and there is no vibration in the engine without a load on it. All the suspension components are in good shape front and back. Been looking at the little stuff to bide my time. Going to drop the pan and look into the tranny. With 227,000 miles on it I would be pretty sure she is just getting to the point of needing a rebuild. Good thing I already planned on it and have been getting the parts together to do the engine/tranny overhaul.
