I need help with how to run the vacuum lines in an 83 bronco with a 302. The reason i dont take it to a pro is because i am stationed in alaska and there are only a handful so they charge whatever they want. I dont know how much help you can give me over the internet but anything is better than nothing. What would be best is pictures of what it should all look like. If that isnt possible then a description would work as long as you break it way down to dummy level  . I think I have most of the lines hooked up right but what there are some things that i cant find. The TVS, Purge CV, and the VRDV. Dont know what they are, what they look like, where they are or nothing. also, at the bottom right rear of the engine is waht i think is call the external heat control or something like that. It looks like a canister. It has a vacuum hose the runs a few inches to a metal tube. that tube runs up the back of the engine and the ther is a hose that connects it to the MAN vac. Is that how it should be hooked up? As for the TVS....There is a hose that is coming out of the bottom front right of the carb, I was told that port was MAN vac......it is supposed to go to the TVS and then i guess into the carb somewhere but i cant find the TVS. PLEASE HELP!

Unfortunately I just don't have a clue as to what you're talking about, it's been a long time since I had an 80's truck. However, what you DO need is the factory Electrical & Vacuum troubleshooting manual. The EVTM. It's one of the Ford factory manuals, these are the ones that dealership service depts use. Forget Chilton's & Haynes, those things are baby food. The Helm manuals (ALL of the big 3 have their factory manuals published by Helm Inc.) really give you something to sink your teeth into. You'll *never* find better or more comprehensive manuals. You can often find them on Ebay thru the guys who've setup Ebay stores just to sell factory literature. Now I couldn't find one right off the bat for an 83' but I *did* find an 82' & an 84'. You can also Email some of the larger sellers and very frequently they'll have a lot of stuff that just hasn't been put up yet so it's worth asking, otherwise the 82' & 84' are pretty much the same truck anyways. Since you don't have access to professional help I'd suggest investing in the Engine manual & the Body, Chassis & Electrical manual. Those two cover everything on the truck in painstaking detail and they'll walk you thru any kind of troubleshooting or repairs you'll ever need to make.

Vacuum line hook ups are not the same for every truck, even for the same year. You can find representative diagrams and the hookups will generally work OK but your truck may have other hookups specific to the area it was shipped to or because fo features.

A VRDV is a Vacuum Delay Valve with a built in restrictor which reduces the effective size of the vacuum line. Delay valves are used to gradually apply or release vacuum to a vacuum operated device.

A TVV is a Thermal Vent Valve used in the gas tank fume control part of the emissions system.

You are right about the Cold Weather Modulator and it is some times used along with a bi-metal sensor inside the air cleaner. It traps vacuum in the system so the Air Cleaner Diverter Motor ACDV will not switch to cold air when accelerating. They are Black, Blue, Green or Yellow which indicates the operating temperature range. The thing that looks like it is a TVS Temperature Vacuum Switch which may be used in the Thermactor system, the EGR or Spark advance system. The TVS comes in Brown, White, Red and Purple again that indicates the operating temperature of the device.

If you can include a picture of your diagram, I can help you sort it out. Also, If I know when you are available and on the forum, we can go into the chat room and talk.

Attached is a picture of a VDV. By the way, I have some of these devices in my garage. I'll try to take some pictures of different ones to give you a better idea what they look like. See my PM to you in response to your PM.

Good Luck,
