I need help quick. My 84 bronco is not charging the battery at all. new regulator and alternator. Belts are tight. Checked fuses and fusible links, but they seem good. only thing i can think of is the wiring, an open somewhere. How is the wiring at the back of the alternator?? one goes to bat +, one to "sta", and one to "grd" or "fld"??? I need to fix this, cause i won't be able to get anymore free batteries....

sounds like something, somewhere is constantly hot. check all the wiring on your system. make sure it all runs to either a relay or something that is cold with the ignition off.

I dont have any parasitic drains though. .005 volts actually. but i think its in the field coil circuit. Does anyone know where to test this wire at? I know its terminal 'S' on the regulator, but where is the other end??

If the battery isn't charging and the alternator is putting out atleast 13.5 V you probably have bad grounding. Check out the ground cable from the battery - to the engine block It could be bad or the connections on either end may be bad. Take them off clean up the area around it and put it back on. There should also be a number 6 ground strap from one of the back intake manafold bolts to a bolt on the fire wall. Though not all trucks have the frame grounded directly to the engine block, it wouldn't hurt to do so.

Good luck,

:)>-
