Okay, I was attemting to put in a water temp guage using a port thing in the side of my block since it was conveniently placed there I guess. Well, I was inserting the brass fitting into the block and the damn thing broke off flush with my block and there is no threads in the part that's still in the block. My question is: how do I get this thing out? I was either thinking an easy out but I'm not sure if the brass will hold up or I was also thinking to tap it? Other than that the only thing I can think of is to simply brase it shut and use a different location however, that doesn't sound like anything I feel like doing because I don't have the stuff to brase. Anyone have a suggestion or have done this and know how to get it out? It would be much appriciated if someone could help me out with this. Thank all!

Bidi, how do you do these things ? Don't answer that, I already know how these things happen :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> There are a few ways you can come at this. An easy out is one, brass is soft & grabby so there's a good chance that will do it. Drilling it out would be another option, if you go that way use a reverse-rotation drill because chances are with a brass insert it will grab it at some point and just spin it out. Yup, you can always braze it if you want to get in there with the torch & filler rod. Alternately you might get away with just epoxy since the temp & pressure aren't huge. An easy out would probably be the first thing I tried, if that doesn't work you can try to drill it out (assuming you don't break off the hardened easy-out in there, and I mention it because I've *done* it) and as long as the drill goes in straight you can probably just use a pick to get the little pieces of brass out of the threads otherwise you'll have to clean it up with a tap.

Went and got a set of easy outs and that did the job. I also deminished the value of my oil PSI guage by installig it. Oh well, maybe I'll get another one for my wall or something? I havn't ran the light to it but I just got done putting my engine back together. I had to run my passenger side header to a friends shop and have him weld on it a bit for me. It broke at the EGR tube thing. Other than that, I'm running at around 55-60 PSI, not nearly as high as I thought. A little higher than I think I need but not to bad I guess, it's steady shortly after startup. I think I need to invest in some new lines though since I mounted my guage under my cowl. It'll work for now. I also got the one piece pan gasket on and the new valve cover gaskets too. Well, that's it for now I suppose. Good night all!

Well dang, I guess I lied. It'll sit at about 50 now right at start up, let the rpm's drop to "normal" idle and it'll hit around 40psi. Get driving and it'll drop to 20psi and then at idle after driving drops to around 11psi. I'm a bit upset since this is a newly re-done engine but I think some 10w-40 or maybe even 15w-40 shouldn't be bad even in the cold. As far as I know it's supposed to be 30* at it's coldest so not to bad but oh well. I think I should've re thought my crank but oh well. I have permission to go threw it again but this time with a new "sroker" crank, the bore machine and the new computer (curtousy of the wife). It'll be some time though since the wife want's to hear her crown vic a little better. Sounds like fun to me! Thanks all!

Bidi, now there are certainly a few things that can cause what you're describing but to be honest I've seen this sort of behavior a few times and every time the root of the problem was in the crank bearings. One way or another there was just too much clearence there and the pressure would drop at idle once it was warmed up & the tolerances expanded. Usually a 20/50 would cure it for long enuf to gather to cash for a proper fix but it sounds to me like you have a crank/bearing issue. But hey, at this point if *nothing* else you're sure learning a **** of a lot aren't you :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Don't let anyone tell you different, the learning curve is long & steep. I broke $hit for a good 20yrs before *I* started to figure it out. There's NO substitute for experience and that's what you're getting my man.

Hey man, I know what you mean. That's one thing I love about this truck. It's ongoing and I enjoy it. Gives me something to look forward to, know what I mean? Kind of wierd though, all the tollerances were fine while building but I could tell the crank didn't like me after it had been polished. Oh well, as long as it'll last until tax season I'll be good to go. New crank a simple 10 over bore, porting the heads and taking off a bit of the deck and a new computer and it'll be good as gold! I can' wait to start getting the stuff.

boy you guys are over the top with this stuff. I just drive my bronco and do little repairs and replacements. But you fools are like master mechanics. Too bad you all live far away I would love a more powerful engine for my bronco.

Nah, I'm just a weekend worior with this stuff. I've been doing it for about 9 or 10 years and I'm only 23. I started with carbs then went (please don't hate me) tuner *gulp* then I went late(er) modle V8. I just love tinkering with it and I love the power they make.
