Alright, now this damn Bronco is really ******* me off. I was driving around when I heard a thud from the rear followed by some type noises that sounded like a whirling noise. Now whats wrong! :((

The truck itself still drives but it dosen't sound very good and there is not alot of power going up hill. I'm afraid of losing the drive shaft on the road and being stranded.

A u-joint shouldn't have any effect on loss of power up a hill. If its bad it will start to vibrate as you let off the gas. If its real bad yes it can fail and you don't want it to happen on the freeway.

Sounds like either the rear end, tranny or t-case to me. Does the motor run good still?

The rig runs real good, a rebuilt 302 as a matter-of-fact, the power problem could be because of the plow or the fact that I was expecting to lose the drive shaft. I looked at the u joints today and they do appear to be pretty rusted. They look to be factory as well and the truck is from new england where we use way to much sand and salt.

If you are feeling brave you could put the rear end on jack stands, start it up put it into gear and climb below to see if you can hear the noise up close. But BE CAREFUL!!!!!!

HAHA, that was funny. Yeah I had the u-joint go bad on me kinda outta nowhere then the d-shaft dropped out. Thanks god for 4wd. I drove it home and took out the shaft and had it rebuilt. Long sotry short, I've replaced all u-joints in the damn thing.
