I'm new to the 4x4 world. I'm finishing up with a modification job on a 68. I have added Duff's Twin-Sticks to the Dana 20. Should I be able to engage just the front axle in either high or low and leave the rear in neutral? The Duff's sales guy on the phone said yes, the local guy at the transmission shop who rebuilt the Dana says no. Please help!

I built my own twin stick for my D20... I have hi, neutral and low independantly front or rear.

I would assume that the Duff kit should do the same.

I would like to see your twin stick. Is it tough to build? I wouldn't mind going w/it but I dont have the time to figure it out currently so if you got a drawing or something, I would like to see it.

Thanks, My "rebuilt" Dana must have some serious issues. The stick for the front will only follow what the rear is doing. If I put the rear in high the front will go into high, same for low. The problem is that when the rear is in nuetral the front will not go into gear. The guy who rebuilt it said there are not enough gears in there for all that. All I should be able to get are 2L, 2H (rear wheel drive only), 4L & 4H. It looks like I'll be pulling it back out.

S bolt, no it was actually very simple.

I used a shifters from D 20 and D 300 J**ps.

At the moment it looks kind of ghetto fab, but it isn't currently in the truck.

I will try and get a pic or two of it mounted on one of my spare cases

and post them. I must mention though that this one is a 77 D 20.

Nothingfancy68,

There is an indent between the rails of the shifter of at least earlier Dana 20's that won't allow the rails to be moved out of sequence. There is nothing wrong with your transfer case, all that is needed is to go back into the case and do a little cutting/grinding. It's strange that the Duff guy should say it should. Your local guy is right though.

to rock crawl meaning use only the front or only the rear axle means you have to go in to the xfer case adn remove the detents. Then it should work. The kit I dont know about. but the detent balls are what keep them moving together.
