I have a question on changing my 1989 Bronco Auto to Manual Transmission.

1. Is it possible without too much trouble

2. Suggestion on which transmission to look for or other vehicles that may have a combatible transmission that I could drop out of at the local "You Pull It".

I just picked up my 1989 Bronco which is in great shape Body, Engine, Interior, Transmission?

It runs good and I have been driving to work for the last three days without any problems it has all new A/C and very cold. Not real happen the way the transmission shifts into 3rd gear (Over drive) or the feel of an auto transmission.

I am thinking about dropping the transmission and putting in a manual transmission. I perfer a manual transmission for a four wheel drive or any truck.

Any sugestion on the subject

If you really feel the need to do that you should look for a complete donor truck or youll be hunting parts forever . It is going to be a pain but if you have a donor youll be ok just some time involved . There is a cover plate on the firewall for the hydraulic master cylinder to mount . Once you pull up the floor mat or carpet youll find a galvanized cover over the tranny if the transfercase shifter is on the floor or youll find an imprint in the sheet metal where youll have to cut it out if it was pushbutton 4x4 . Youll probably have to have your driveshaft redone ( lengthened or shortened ) depening on the length of the stick tranny you end up with but no matter what youll have some time into it . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks for the imput! I talked to my DAD on the phone down in South Florida who has been a Ford Man all his life. He suggested that I try driving my Bronco home from work just in the drive gear and not (Over Drive) because the prior owner may have just drove it in (Over Drive) all the time. What do I know I've been a Chevy and Jeep man all my life. Well I tried it and just as he said it did drive better and the RPM's were a little higher above 2000. About half way home which is 20 miles oneway I shifted back up into (Over Drive). I don't know if it's me or what but it did drive much better! The RPM's cruising on the highway about 60 mph stayed around 1500 which is were it had been. But it felt like it did shift better in and out of (Over Drive). And yes my Dad said the same thing you say in your posting about what a pain it would be changing over to manual. I quess it's just me worring about buying such a vehicle with that many years on the road. But it is a great looking Bronco inside and out. I can't find and rust on it or under it other then a quarter size spot above the driver side door on the roof which isn't bad at all. Thanks
