Hello all,

Just a bit of back ground. I have an 89 Bronco with a 5.0EFI and an AOD transmission that was rebuit three times. I got hosed bad from some mechanics that took $12,000 to rebuilt my baby and it ran for a year till 3rd and OD went away. Now I'll be lucky if I can get it into 2nd. Transmission leaking from connection at radiator, and heat is gone. I refuse to give up on this Bronco but am quite a novice at the mechanical terms and such. That and not a rich woman here. $-) A friend has an old tranny from an 89 F-250 sitting at his house, said I could have it if i wanted it. My question is will they match up? I got a new (or what I was told was new with the rebuild) Jasper 5.0EFI so I am hoping that it is all the transmission. Any help or guidance would be most appreciated. I recently got married and am dying to show my new hubby my off road skills...lol, basically I just want to get my baby dirty! Any other info needed to answer please just say so, I will be on it asap. Thanks

Marianne

You said that it leaks at the radiator? Is it leaking fluid? Have you tried to add more fluid in to top off the tranny and see if the gears will come back? Also, what engine was in the 250? If it was a 351 or 5.8 (same thing) and the tranny is an AOD then they will match up. Also, if it's a c6 it should match as well but it wont have the OD gear. If it's leaking tranny fluid out around the radiator connections then I would suggest fixing the leak with possibly just tightening the connections and adding fluid and seeing if that'll help get the gears back. If that doesn't work then I would look at another tranny thought tranny swaps are a PITA. Also, if the tranny in the 250 is a 2wd tranny then it wont work with the transfer case without the tailshaft being modified which means the tranny has to come all apart for that. Also, if you get a chance, make a signature with all the specs about your Bronco that you can so it'll be easy to identify what you have and don't have. Hope this helps a bit....

Welcome to the Zone > .

I hope that wasn't $12,000 for a transmission rebuild :-& , normal price is in the ball park of $1,000. If the F250 is a 4X4 and has a 302 or 351 and AOD, there should be no problem.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thank you both for the information. Have no idea what motor was in the F-250, the tanny was laying in his yard. All I got were the numbers off it. But I do not know where to go to get these numbers checked out. I found a link on one of the posts here that showed the difference between a AOD and a C-6 by the bolt count and plate design, then when I went over to look at this thing it wasn't like either of them, so at this point I am thinking it is a NO. It still has the transfer case attached and it had a manual 4 wheel drive shifter.

100_0050.JPG BTW no the $12,000 was for the entire rebuild not just the tranny...sorry if I was not clear on that.

As for the leaking, yep, I tried to add more fluid, but it still didn't help. Heck when I first found the leak a friend showed me that the guys who rebuilt put the part on upside down ... yes I know I got ******.

working on the Signature with all my specs, I just found my pics from when I had it rebuilt. Again thank you all for the assistance, your awesome.

The auto tranny from that 89 F-250 will either be a C-6 or the E4OD. Regardless, if it'sbeen sitting for a long time, it may not be a good swap unless it's gone through and checked or rebuilt. I've also found that you should get estimates from at least three transmission shops when you need service. Two will likely want to rebuild your current opne while the third may be able to repair a simple problem. Good luck, mighgt also keep a lookout in the classifieds for someone parting out a Bronco in your area. JSM84
