I have a 90 bronco, 302 motor, auto tranny, D44 solid front, ford 8.8 rear, 4.56 gears lockers front & rear, 36" IROKs. I'm trying to diagnose why it "dies" when it is bad conditions. The motor will stay at a low RPM even with the pedal on the floor. The wheels won't move though. I was told it could be anything from needing to get a better torque converter to my transfer case. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have a T-18 and dana20 that came off an old CJ would that match up?

Being a 1990 model, I would assume that your auto tranny is an E40D? Check your drivers-side door sticker for the trans code "E". If that's the case, I would suspedct the transmision is in need of repair. It's an expensive overhaul at near $3000. You can upgrade to 95-newer parts if that's the problem, JSM84

If that is the case I think I will just put a new tranny in it. Do you know if a T-18 will work?

A Ford T-18 will work, with the SB bellhousing to match your 302. The t-case from the Bronco will als obolt up to the Ford T-18. You can chec kwith Motive Gear or Advance Adapters on the bolt patterns, but I don't think the Jeep CJ T-18 will work. You'll also have to deal with changin or modding the Bronco ECM/ computer, since that controls both the engine and E40D auto shift points. Miesk5's Homepage has several links on the auto to manual swap, although most will be to the ZF-S42/ S47 5-speed manuals due to the overdrive feature. His homepage alos has a ton of info on diagnosing the E40D. IF something is wrong with it, it usually throws a code that you can read. JSM84

After doing further investigation, the trans I have is a T-19 with a dana20 attached to it. With the forward output on the passenger side, i believe i have seen these transfer cases flipped. I got the tranny and trans off a guy who pulled it out of an old jeep. I dont know if it is a ford or jeep tranny. I have to try and track down the code on the side to find out. I'll probably going to the yard this week to look for a temporary replacement to mine, which is a AOD. Any suggestions for the best possible upgrade that bolts right in?
