Besides not having a OD indicator on the gear selector, is this a direct swap? I need to make my Bronco a little more highway friendly.

Why? C-6 is waaaaayyy better! BUT if you still want to do it, try advanced adapters.com, they may have more info for you.

Wouldn't I get better gas mileage with OD? Or will it not make that big of a difference? I dont want to change if there is no advantage.

I was going to swap my C6 for an E4OD, until I got all the cost together. Between the tranny and computer it was a small fortune. I am thinking about getting a gear vendor. It is less than half the cost of the overdrive. With the vendor your C-6 turns into a six speed with overdrive. In additon you keep the strength of the C6 and have a mechanical system vs a computer controlled. I have a link to them if interested.

What year truck was your friends ? I see no reason why you couldnt take the E4OD out and put a C6 in its place . The engine management system is seperate from the transmission controls and if its 95 or newer I know for sure that it gets its speed reading from sensor on rear end which feeds speedometer and engine management . The C6 doesnt care what its in just needs a vacuum line and its good to go . The computer in the truck for the E4OD controls shift points and line pressure nothing ties into the engine manegment system . I kept the E4OD in my bronco when I put a carbed motor in it . I did it using a stand alone computer from baumann engineering . I have all wiring diagrams for tying it in and have all ford service manuals from 88 to 91 for electrical diagrams . The only thing the transmission and the engine controls share is the throttle position sensor . That swap should be fine . Anyone else tried this ?

I agree, the C-6 can be swapped in place of the E4OD, and there is info on swapping the wiring to make it work. As for getting better mileage, The overdrive may give you 1-3 mpg more, but the C-6 is a more durable tranny. The E4OD is basically the same thing with overdrive and the electronics.
