i just swapped in a 205 from another bronco into a 79 that had a 203. it went together very straightforeward other than drilling one hole in the framerail for the sidemount. i used the bronco 205 to c6 adapter and driveshafts from the other bronco and now the 79 c6 that worked great with the 203 doesnt move the truck. we lost alot of fluid when it was pulled apart but it seems to be full again now. ive tried it in every t case gear to get the truck to move and nothing. everything shifts and feels like normal except it grinds when you try to go back into park with it in any t case gear running. what could cause this?? should i just keep adding fluid until hopefully it moves?

I'm not sure, but I thought I had read some place that the output shaft's for the 203 and 205 were not the same and this may be some of your problem. I do know that the front axle hubs for the 203 are automatic and the 205 are manual. If you did not replace the 203 hubs with manuals, this may be some of your problem as the axle shafts/hubs are causing some sort of binding back through the drive shaft. You shouldn't lose that much tranny fluid out the tail shaft. Also check the lengths of the 203 adapter and output shaft against the 205 adapter and output shaft, there may be a differance there and your not splined in to the transfer case all the way.

the tranny output shafts are different lengths depending on the transfer the truck originally came with? after digging around in my pile of parts i found that the bronco 203 adapter that was in it when i bought it is shorter than the bronco 205 adapter i put in it, and that the pickup adapter 205 is shorter than the bronco. another complete bronco sitting around has the c6 205 and it has the long 205 adapter like what ive put in mine now. so i guess i need to swap in a tranny that came with the long adapter and 205? all the parts came from a compete bronco and the driveshafts are the correct length with the long adapter. the donor truck i used is a 78 i think because the driveshafts look smaller in diameter than my 79 203 shafts. they are very new looking so maybe they were built at a local shop and its a 79 i dunno but i used the donor trucks front axle because it has a really tight trac bar stud and it was cleaner to start with and just in case the yokes might be different for the new shafts. it has warn premiums on it. for some reason i thought i read that broncos used the short adapters and trucks used long ones. i also looked at the pickup np435 205 adapter and it looked on the long side. my guess is that it is not stabbed in, but i took all the parts from a 78/79 bronco for the swap. me and my buddies are pretty confused and its gettin kinda cold outside to do this kind of work, especially just to pull everything out again to measure (what i should have done the first time) thanks for the reply.

'78 Bronco's used a smaller U-Joint then the '79. You might be able to swap out the output yokes from the '79 203 to the '78 205 and then run with the heavier drive shafts. Don't forget to swap out the input yokes on your front and rear diffs as well. It is recommended that you use new yoke nuts but you may be able to get by with using some Locktite on the nuts instead of replacing them.
