when bought my '90 2 months ago, it wouldnt run because it needed a new torque converter. after weeks of dicking with it, and all the various stuff that we decided to change while 'we were there', everything is done...supposedly.

we started the truck up, boom, runs nicely.

but when we tried to put the truck into drive, nothing happened. yes, there is fluid (she was bone dry).

someone told me you had to 'bleed the tranny' sort of like you do brakes. says to just cycle through the gears. can anyone vouch for this? anyone ever heard of this? anyone know of anything else that could be the problem? also, if there is a better way to bleed the tranny, please, describe.

thanks

My guess is that maybe this is what the truck was doing when it was originally diagnosed with a torque converter problem. Let it run at idle for about half hour or so, let it get up to temp. Check the fluid, make sure its full. I am thinking your tranny might be toast, wasn't a torque converter problem from the start. Sorry for the bad news

Are you certain the transfer case is in gear, make sure because it will not move if the t-case is in neutral

I agree with yardape....its probably toast. My last pickup had an E4 and when it started going out,it was a circus of problems.I lost 4th, then 3rd,then reverse then nothing.Did your trannt flood look brown or black when you pulled the tranny,or smell like burned coffee and hair?If so then its probably shot.I hope im wrong 'cause they aint cheap.I would drop in a C-6,its worth the headache of swapping trannies.

actually, i have no idea what started the problem. the previous owner (JR) said the guy he bought the truck from replaced the torque converter with a junkyard replacement. the tranny started to leak, so JR decided to change the torque converter again. while we were down there we also replaced the main seal ( hope that was what we did) cause it was chewed to crap.

if the tranny is shot....***** that...anyone want to buy and 90 eddie bauer?
