1990 bronco

hi all , i am looking at buying another bronco 1990. my freind says it has a problem. when u put bronco into drive it feels like it is stuck and wount move. if he un hooks the drive line and puts in four wheel drive it moves. he changed the diff and still dose the same thing. any info?
