What are you guys using to adapt the stock round plug to a flat 4 pin plug? I tried several and they were all too big to fit the bronco.

Thanks

Have you checked a local trailer supply store? They usually carry the adapters you need. On my 98 Z-71, the small round plug was bad, so I just cut it off and spliced in the flat, 4-prong connector. If you want to keep the round plug, you can splice the flat one into the wiring. Be sure to wrap it good and tie it so it won't rub the bumper of the frame. JSM84

yep, what Randy wrote; they have exact fit connectors that mount well

one is:

Trailer Wiring Harness Accessories

Plug into existing taillight harness. No cutting or splicing. 4 - flat connector, 16 gauge wire. Taillight converter included with kits when needed. T - Connectors allow you to connect your trailer's wiring system into you vehicle's wiring system. This is quicker than cutting and splicing and keeps the integrity of your vehicle's wiring system intact. Locate the factory OEM taillight wiring harness on the tow vehicle, instructions are provided in the kit. Unplug the wiring harness and simply plug in the connector. This unit will be pre-wired to provide right turn, left turn, taillight light / stop light for your trailer.

Ford 1992 - 96 Bronco (Full Size) 40435 $25.95

or e bay, etc, such as this one for $5 Canadian

Trailer wiring harness for full-size Ford Bronco. 1992-1995 model years. Direct plug in, don't have to cut the wires.

Thanks guys, but doesn't someone make one like this that will fit a bronco? Problem is I've tried a couple of these already and had to return them, too big in diameter to fit the hole. I do not want to rewire or even mess with the wiring. I also use the trailer with another vehicle that is wired for the 4 pin so I want to find an adapter that will just plug right in to the 7 pin plug on the bronco.

The wiring that has been refered to you is a very easy wiring task, all you do is unplug the taillights at the factory connection, plug in the tee connector from the kit and then plug in your tailights to that. easy a pie, no splicing or guessing. If not you just have to keep looking for your adapter, could take you months, grabbing this connector you should be up and running today.

i got mine from autozone for like 15 bucks comes with leds to tell what the converson is
Well...I decided to try the "Zone" and picked up one of the above pictured adapters. Since I was in my every day beater car, I couldn't try it out till I got home. Tried it and it don't fit the !$&%#@ hole (1/8" too big around) and the slot is in the wrong place so even even it did fit the hole it would not work. I drove the bronc today so I can take the adapter back and then try out the rest of the store. There just has to be an adapter to fit this thing... is it a special order from Ford? I should not have to splice an four pin into my stock wiring harness to do this.......argh!

Seems rather odd, When you buy a trailer it works on most vehicles, what I'm getting at is when you buy a Bronco you didnt have to go and get all the trailers you may haul wired to your bronco. Should be just a normal trailer plug, I am not understanding what your dilema is, are you sure its the factory one? Can you post a picture?

I hear ya and will do that (take a pic) if I don't get one (adapter) today on the way home. I assume since this is a "XLT" model that the trailer plug on the bronco is factory equipment. It is a round 7 pin plug with round pins, the one in the center and the one straight up in the 12 oclock are larger than the rest of the pins...if that helps. I really dont want to have another plug hanging down from under the bumper.

Thanks for the help.

Latest is.... it is a Ford plug...it says Ford right on it. It is hard wired as far as you can see up around the gas tank. No wiring harness plugs visible. I did not follow the wires any further and I didn't get a chance to take any good pics yet. I was wrong about the pins, it only has one large round one at the 12 position....it says it is a ground. It has 6 smaller others that also have their purpose stamped right on the plug. This plug is grey with a grey door and has Ford stamped above the door. Since there is no unplugable connector that I can see, I will either have to cut the wires or find an adapter. The auto stores have nothing to fit and nothing in the computer. I find it hard to believe this is the only Bronco with this plug!
