Hi Guy's, new to the site first time posting!! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I have a 1990 Bronco with a 351W and the overdrive tranny, I can't remember the tranny #...E4OD?? I have no problem what so ever with the tranny..it's runs great.

Anyway I got the Bronco recently and have heard bad things about these tranny's so I changed the fluid and filter when I got it and added Lucas tranny additive, 16qts with the torque converter!! I was wondering about towing a car trailer with my Saleen S-351 on it. Can these tranny's take it?? I keep hearing these are not good tranny's, but how many F150's have these and tow all the time? I want the overdrive...1600rpm@60mph, 1900rpm@70mph, I do alot of freeway driving and I'm not into going down the freeway at high rpm so a non overdrive tranny swap is not an option. Also when I'm towing do I have to turn the overdrive off? I have heard that it's ******* the tranny towing a heavy load in O.D.

So it would be around 5500lbs tow weight and I think I read somewhere that it was rated with the 351w around 8000lbs?? Does anyone know??

Any help on the subject is welcome, I would like to keep the Bronco but I'm going to need to tow eventually. I know I can put on a cooler....also synthetic tranny fluid is 100 times better than regular, but if the tranny can't take it I don't want to waste my time trying to tow with it. Or am I completely wrong in even worrying about it? I wouldn't be towing very much..a few times a year maybe.

Thank's, Tom

I have towed close to 10,000 lbs behind my F150 and it didnt like it at all was only a few miles to my house but I wouldnt make a habit of it . If your load is that heavy you should shut the overdrive off . 95 and up E4OD,s have most of the updates and bugs worked out so yours is one of the weaker ones . The overdrive clutch band is in the torque convertor so if it gets hurt or worn badly the torque convertor will have to be changed when you rebuild the tranny , If its all working good and you havent noticed any problems with it shifting I think you will have no problems towing your load with it just shut the overdrive off . Check the fluid for burnt smells or darkening color and you will be fine . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Since you will be towing such a heavy load a larger transmission cooler would be a good idea. Yours should be mounted right in between the radiator and the grill. You can get a transmission cooler off of a f-250 wich will bolt right in place of the stock on. This will keep the transmission fluid a lot cooler.
