The seals shouldnt leak unless they are rotted. Only 120 pounds but awkward fairly easy for 2 people to take off and put back on, i dont remember the size of the bolts off hand but take the trim ***** out and the bolts are right there, id recommend taking the little c clips out so they dont slide out, the bolts will be tight if its never been removed.

Wassup, Tank??? If you need some help, I posted a link to some top removal articles in the previous thread. Your 83 doesn't have the Torx bolts, just regular bolts, holding down the top. After you remove the screws from the trim pieces, remove the 13 bolts that hold the top. I believe the size is 8mm for the socket you'll need. As stated, the first time off those bolts will be tight. Some of the ones that go into the cab are very long, and they are all fine-thread. Give yourself about an hour to take them all out. To break the cab seal, first push upward on the top. I climb in the back seat, and use my back to raise the top enough to clear the lip of the cab and the rubber seal. There is a location pin at the end of each side of the bed by the tailgate. You will need to lift the back end of the top off of those, too. IT definitely helps to have a friend help you. After you have the top loose from the cab, spin around and walk the top to the rear of the Bronco, enough so that you can stand up between the top and the cab. Then carefully lower the top off of the end of the opened tailgate to the ground. Keep it stored on some 2x4's or tires, at least so it's off of the ground. IF you lay it flat, the rubber bumpers on the end of the top will get damaged. I've had my top off and on several times, and finally got a softtop so I can be ******* all of the time!!!

My bolts are 5/16th on my shell. If it's never been off before spray it with some PB blaster or deep creep and let it soak. Repeat that a few times because you most likely will strip those things eventually if you don't use something.

I've taken off and replaced the top several times now by myself, and once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad.

I usually do just what JSM said up to breaking the seal. At that point I stand up under it and walk it straight back so that I can rest about 2 feet of it on the bedrails, then support it with my hand while I climb out of the back. Then just lift and walk again.

Getting it back on is easier than you'd think. If you lift it up, and are careful, you can do it the same way you took it off. For me it's a little high to do it that way, so i usually place it on the bed so that it hangs over the driver's side bedrail, then climb in and lift it up again to set it on the rails.
