TOO HOT!

Okay another problem with my 89I was having starting issues and power issues so I replaced the starter and alternator and battery. Simple enough right? But right after that I was driving and noticed the temp was all the way to H. Yes that's the first time its been that hot. I opened the hood. And one of the hoses had a hole in in and it spewed what I assumed was coolant everywhere because my coolant was empty after that. And yes I keep on top of fluids. So I got a new hose and cut it to size and put more coolant in. But now it still gets hot right away. I thought maybe since that didn't work I could have put the starter or battery cables on wrong. You never know but no I checked them and they're good. Why is it getting so hot!?!?
