I want to put new rims on my 96 bronco. I dont really know a lot about sizing for tires and rims. If I get 17 in. rims what size tire should I get? I have both picked but I dont know what sizes.

rims:

tires:

I just dont want to spend all that money to find out its wrong.

Thanks

yo,

This could be tricky

I can't figure out how you picked those tires and wheel sizes; so go to a local mom & pop tire store and ask about 17" wheel and tire combos thta will fit on your 5 on 5-1/2 (139.7 mm) Bolt Pattern

ok I see the Allies wheel is available in 5 on 5.5"

Next is to check the Back Spacing, Off Set

My pal Shadofax has a 95 w/37x12.5 17 Goodyear MTR Kevlars on 17x 9 Ion Alloy wheels

But he has a 6" lift and SAS w/Cage offroad radius arms

So, does your Bronco have a lift too?

For wheel sizing, try Tire Rack @ http://www.tirerack.com/tires/sizes/results.jsp?diameter=17

Pick out size

Pick Tire

Pick Specs in gray area

See measuring rim width

LMC Truck offers 17" wheels with 5 x 5.5 pattern. Like miesk5 said Tirerack is a great place for tires. Don't forget if you change wheel size you will want to change gearing and also reprogam the PSOM.

Good luck,

UPDATE!

I did a search and found out this info;

lariat06 wrote

I changed mine to 17" Lightning wheels and went with 265/70-17 Yokohama A/T's . No clearance problems at all and it seems to work well of road as well as smooth highway driving. He has a 96 XLT

He prob uses the 1993 - 1995 model yr Lightning wheels

yes, stock gen 1 (93-95)lightning wheels are 17X8 5on 5.5

gen 2 (99-04) are 18X9.5 5on135mm and are hubcentric although I have thought about seeing what mine would look like on the Bronco

You sure the 99-04 are a 5 bolt pattern?

For the OP Just check out local tire shopes they can help you out with maintaining stock sizing with plus size rims. Here are the stoke size tires for 17 inch rims.

225/70-17

235/65-17

245/60-17

245/65-17

255/60-17

265/60-17

275/55-17

An example from the discount tire web site.

wheel offset is always key in the fitment tire size if you are looking to match lets say a 31x10.50R15 in a 17 would be a LT 265/65R17 vitually identical in height & width 30.7 & 10.5

as you go larger to:

LT265/70R17=31.8 & 10.7

LT275/65R17=31.2 & 11.0

LT275/70R17=32.3 & 11.0

LT285/70R17-32.8 & 11.5

gearing comes into play, much beyond these a lift will be required
