Does the tire rack latch have a backing plate that mounts inside the tailgate? I've noticed my latch assembly only has 2 bolts that hold it on to the outside of tailgate and the mounting holes are starting to wear out. Any ideas on how this mounting assy mounts on tailgate.

Thanks,

Yep...,It's about twice the size of the front latch plate.

I had the carpet piece on the back of my tailgate and I never remember that being on there, doesn't mean it shouldn't have or maybe it was removed. Does this backing plate mount over the the carpet piece? I don't see any existing holes for it. The stop for the liftgate is mounted on the inside right behind where the latch assembly is. I just got my rig painted so the carpet piece is off right now so I want to mount the latch and backing plate like it should before I replace the carpet piece. Do both of these latch pieces scew to each other through the tailgate? Any idea if there is a drawing or diagram for it anywhere?

Thanks,

No, that mounting plate is inside the tailgate it'self. You have to pull the TG handle off to get to the back side of it.

Ok thanks, I'll get one from JBG. From the picture I see on JBG it looks like the latch assy screws thread right on to the backing plate. I guess my old backing plate is worn because there is no threads showing for the top ***** hole that mounts the latch assy and the bottom hole ***** want tighten down completely.

Prob. what happened is., the top bolt was removed.., & when the bottom one was loosened enough...the plate fell/rotated downward.

I kind of thought that, but I got both bolts out now and it looks like nothing is there. Funny thing though, nothing ever fell when I removed the last bolt. I guess it could have fell to the bottom of tailgate but I don't hear anything rolling around. When I get my new plate on I'll run a magnet down through it.
