So I went out and pulled the dizzy cap off and turned the fan by hand "with the engine off" and watched the dizzy move.

it DID NOT move instantly I measured it with a tape, I can rotate the fan blades almost one inch before the dizzy starts to move. I checked the belts to make sure they were not slipping before i took my measurement the belts are good.

Im looking at my book and it looks like a easy process changing the chain out but my book DONT recommend changing out the sprockets??? is there a rule of thumb when changing the timing chain?

WHAT IS A FUEL ECCENTRIC PUMP??????? can this go bad????? should i change it out???

THANKS

Hi "J"

1st..., you really need to fill in your signature page....!

It enters all your info. on your rig on ea. post. Others are more likely to help if they know what their dealing with. It really makes things easier on all levels.

What shape is the dizzy in..? Need to be sure it's not wore out B/4 going to the timing chain.

Timing chains usually come in sets....both gears & chain.

Using the crank bolt, I can move my eng. back & forth 1 timing mark. (approx. 1/8th inch.)

You can actually feel it move & stop as it meets with a bit more resistance. At that resistance., the rotor will start to turn.

Once the T-chain cover is off there's a "slop" test in your book.

The eccentric is yet another "lobe" on the cam...it operates the fuel pump. rarely, if ever is this a problem.

Sometimes the pan has to be loosened., or removed to get the T-chain cover off.

Might want to call me B/4 starting on the T-chain removal.

I was not sue if it came as a set?? make it sound a lot easier with a kit.

I'm not sure of the condition of the distributor???? I really dont know how to tell if its good or bad.

DO I HAVE TO TURN THE CRANK BOLT???? OR is moving the fan kinda the same thing???

I thought i had my pages filled in????? i will go through them again $-)

It's just a better "feel" turn'n it back-n-forth with the pully nut.

If the dizzy shaft has no play (remove rotor & try to wiggle shaft) & lobes are in good shape, it's likely to be OK.

I must have been on another page that doesn't show the sig. :-B

I would say turn it by what ever means you like but use the timeing marks on the crank pully to measure the amount turned either way sounds like you deffinetly have some wear on something and you are on the right track to finding it keep us posted on your findings. Pictures are priceless.
