Timing or Carb Problems

Ok, so my truck is having some problems on the high end, starts at about 3k RPM. I dont have a timing light at the moment, i was wondering any if yall knew any ways to get it in the ball park till i can get one. whats its doin is hesitain when i give it more gas, and pullin funny. I was also thinkin it could be the secondaries on the carb?

Well, you wouldn't be the *first* guy without a timing light to ***** around with it. There's nothing to loosening the hold-down and nudging the dizzy one way or the other and seeing if it improves the situation or not. I've certainly done it before. The secondaries are usually vacuum controlled so ck for leaks, broken/cracked hoses, stuff like that. A small leak in the right place can ***** them up. Some guys like to use a squirt-bottle of water to ck for that stuff, a squirt here of there will momentarily eliminate the leake & the engine surge will tell you you've found something but it's much les reliable for low-rev type stuff. It's worth ck'ing all the connections and the hoses.
