I am not sure if this is the right place for this question but I will ask it anyway. I finally got the bronc running right and now want to replace the stock muffler. I read earlier posts and it seems like the consensus is that the 40 series flowmaster is middle of the road on noise, which I think is what I am looking for. I want a good, deep rumble but by no means am I wanting glass pack noise. I am on a budget because there is a ton of stuff I want to do to the truck. My question is this: Will the thrushwelded give me a similar sound to the 40 series flowmaster for less $$$? I have a 95 XLT with a 351. Thanks!

Yeah, the cash is a major motivator. Just didn't want to have it put on and be unsatisfied. I am planning to have high quality headers put on at the same time. My mechanic that I use for things I think I am gonna ***** up or just don't want to do says I should split the exhaust to get the full benefit of the headers. When I do this will I have to install dual mufflers as well or is the split behind the muffler. Probably a stupid question but I have never dealt with alot of the things I want to do to the truck. This forum is great for information. Thanks.

Your mechanic is right. Dual pipes behind one muffler look and sound cool, but offer little performance gain. I'm not sure what year your rig is, but if it's a '96 it's got a MAF sensor as well that will restrict your air intake, so opening the exhaust flow has less of an impact on performance. I'm yet to see an aftermarket MAF for the 96 bronco.

Do you have a catalytic converter to deal with?

You might want to put some info in your signature about your rig and you'll get more responses. Year, engine, tire size, any mods, approx. miles on odometer, etc....

Good luck! I'd get good info before you start putting money in that may not give you any appreciable gain in performance.

Thanks for the heads up on the signature. I have a 95 XLT. I do have at least 1 cat. I have read alot on here about alot of them having 2, but I honestly haven't looked. Planning to get under the truck to look around this weekend. He wants to pipe through the cat or cats or remove them for added performance. As of now the truck is stock but I plan to keep the truck til it falls apart so I have many upgrade plans as I go. I am almost sorry I found this site cause I see what the truck can be from all of the smokin broncs on here!!!. Still, making the truck into what I really want over time will still be less than a 5 year note on something, that is what I keep telling my wife anyway. I am somewhat reluctant to remove the cat/cats cause I would feel sort of bad about it, but haven't decided for sure. I may let him do it and then come back and add a high flow cat when I have the $. No sniff test for inspections where I am. I am only diving into the exhaust before a lift because I have a manifold gasket leak, and my buddy gave me the preformance headers because they will not fit his 96. So 2 mufflers for performance... They will definately be the Thrush then, because of cost.
