Think 4X4 Shift Motor is Shot

I was driving today and tested out my 4x4, it was fine until I pulled over, turned 4x4 off and drove away. The truck made some loud thudding noises and I could feel the bumping in the floor boards. I haven't drove it since then and think the shift motor may be screwed. What else could it be? By the way it is push button 4x4.

Did you back up 10 or so feet to unlock the hubs?

I just did that and it isn't thumping.
