Nice to find this site. My name is Scott and I live in Reno, Nevada. I own 2 '84 full-size Broncos... My daily driver is has the 300 c.i. T-18 and NP208 setup, and my other is an XLT with the 351W, 4spd and NP208. My question is this... The trans in the XLT is toast and needs to be replaced FAST. The trans code on the sticker on the B-pillar is B. Can I replace it with a T-19 without doing major surgery??? Please help, guys!!! This thing needs to be put back together within the next 7 days, and I'm new to the 4 wheel drive scene, but I'm really into learning all that I can about these rigs that have become members of our family. Thanks for your help. Scott

Welcome to Bronco Zone!!! Trans Code "B" is the Single Rail Overdrive (SROD). HEre's some specs:

Model: SROD

Type: Four speed overdrive w/ push down reverse

Years: 80-83(4?)

Engines: 300, 302

Fluid: ?

Display:

P..R..1..3

U

S.....2..OD

H

Ratios:

1st 3.25:1

2nd 1.92:1

3rd 1.00:1

4th 0.78:1

Reverse 3.25:1

Construction features: Aluminum, shifter near back

Trans code: B

The Borg-Warner T-18 and T-19 4-sp manuals are very similar to one another and either would be a much stronger swap from the SROD in my opinion. Motive Gear and Novak Enterprises both have some good info on tranny swaps as well as how to ID these. If you have the bellhousing for the T-18/T-19 along with the linkage for the transfer case, should be a direct swap. You may also need the tailhousing or t-case adapter for the T-18/T-19. JSM84

Thanks for your reply, JSM84... I guess we'll just have to pull this booger out to find out what we've got here... At first we thought we had a bad transfer case... Upon pulling it out last weekend, we discovered it had been recently rebuilt... That being said, the output shaft doesn't spin with the engine running... I've never seen that, regardless of how smoked the clutch is... 'Fraid I'm screwed 'cause I'm running out of time on this deal... Guess we'll figure it out sooner or later . Any input will still be welcome. Scott
