Okay so i just bought a 88 bronco and the stock temp gauge (which I don't like anyway--l normal h???what kinda crap is that??) doesn't work and it has an aftermarket gauge cluster. It seems to read about 180-190 at the hottest but it "seems" like it is hotter than that ....stupid I know but how do you know if the temp gauge is right. Also what is the normal operating temp (in South Mississippi summer)?? Any help or opinions welcome

You can buy or maybe rent an infra-red temp gauge from most parts stores. The "normal" engine temp you have can depend on the thermostat range, like 195 or 205, assuming it's working and not stuck closed.

Ditto on Justshootme84s comment. Sounds like you have a 185 Tstat in it. I run a 195 ywear round and with the electric fan it never exceeds 200 and runs right at 195 99% of the time.

Good luck,

:)>-
