I have a 1985 Ford Bronco 351. It has been running fine until the other day when I started hearing a tapping noise. It is hard to pinpoint where it is, but it is heard pretty easily. Does anybody know what it is? any suggestions would be very helpful.

It could be either your lifters, an exhaust leak, or the wire from your coil to the distributor. On the last one, if you don't completely get the wire all the wy in you will hear a snaping from the spark jumping the gap between the wire and the contact inside the cap.

One way to locate the noise is to take a section of hose or a short piece of pipe and use it like a stethascope moving it around to different locations and listening thru the other end, just watch out for the fan blade.

Good luck,

:)>-

I had this exact problem once, and it was a lifter. Run a can of Marvel Mystery Oil through it and see if it stops.

In nuetral or park, does the tapping get faster when you step on the accelerator? If it speeds up and slows down with the RPMs, it could be a rod bearing. But, that's not probable.

, just watch out for the fan blade.
That would definately make a loud painful tapping noise.
