I need to replace the tailgate on a 96 bronco I've located somebody with a tailgate

with no hardware that he bought for a 92 bronco that he never installed will it fit a 96, and does anybody have any tips on how to do this?

Yes, it will fit. Be careful of the tortion bar when you remove the old gate. It is least dangerous to remove the bracket holding the end to the right 1/4 panel by only opening the gate far enough to remove the retainer bolts. If you do that with the tailgate down it is loaded and ready to strike, you could end up with a serious injury.

Remove the end seals and window seals, being careful with the long window seals, they tend to bend easily. You might consider getting a new set first from some place like the Bronco Grveyard http://www.broncograveyard.com .

Use something like PB Blaster and soak the nuts that hold the window carriers onto the window and then remove the nuts which will allow you to remove the window. After that just remove the rest of the hardware and reinstall it in the new gate.

That's a little oversimplified, but if you are mechanically inclined you will do just fine. This is probably best done inside a garage so you don't have to worry about time or weather.

Good luck,

:)>-

oh, hey look out for that damn safety switch located on the driver's side door corner at the top. That stupid thing hung me up for weeks.

Yeah, that torsion bar can be a pain, literally!! When I swapped mine I left it out. It might just be that mine lost some of its spring, but I don't find the tailgate all that much heavier or harder to close.
