I swapped tailgates this week, the problem is when I close the new gate it won't latch. I replaced both latches, the handle, the linkages and the center mechanism that all the linkages are attatched to.

What I have found, is if I pull on the linkages to simulate it closing / latching, it closes and latches better than my new car's doors.

The parts I used were not new, but they were each the best I had out of 3 tailgates. I tried different combinations of parts with no positive results.

THANKS!!

It sounds like the latches work OK by them selves but fail to lock around the strikers. Have you tried adjusting the strikers. They have a place for a Torx wrench and when loosened you cna change their position.

Good luck,

:)>-

If you're just adjusting the striker you can just use a pair of pliers on the outside of it and don't necessarily need a torx wrench.

sometimes you can use an allen wrench in a torx head but not always. and you have to watch for slippage of the allen wrench if if slips don't try any more just go ahead and get a torx bit.
